The Marathon flag become sort of transparency due to the light.

The beauty of all different colors of leaves on campus allowed me to enjoy the harvest season in the States. Leaves also showed the light on surface.

When light hit on my hair, it become more brown which initially is dark brown or even black.

This is my project of ID Workshop (message glasses.) I adjusted the level and color balance with more green and yellow. It somehow turned to be more details. The shadow of grass which is on the description card presented some blue color, and that's film.

surface

Surface of a tree log- has variety of colours in hue and value.

The surface of the buildings are similar in hue but the angles and lighting makes an interesting composition.

SURFACE

SURFACE

Surface softness is conveyed by the way the light reflects off individual hairs.

Like the cat, individual threads are illuminated in this picture - highlighting the soft nubby texture of the material.

Close- up of nupastels: The way the light is distributed over the surface of this material shows its unique smooth and vulnerable surface.

These three examples show how the quality of light and shadows changes the appearance of the surfaces of the mountains, tree trunk and glacier.

SURFACE

Here's an example of getting more information from the color image - values are similar, but the golden-browns and darker browns in the color image show the viewer the more baked parts of the crust.

I think this shows an example of getting a better feel for texture from the black and white image. By bumping up contrast and converting to b/w, there's less background distraction and greater perceived depth within the moss.

Surface and Film

Surface

Film, Illumination, Surface

These first two images explore the film of the sky in relation to the surface of the water and the film of a window pane.

I then investigated the difference between light on a surface when you can identify the light source contrasted to light on a surface that can not be identified. In these images, you can see the source of light from the hanging light fixture and the sun coming in the windows. When viewing these images you are using a surface mode of perception.

However, when you can no longer see the source of light you switch into a film mode of perception and it just looks like there is a warmer tint on all the surfaces.
